Recitals, 2017

My students are Wonderful!!

This year's recitals were held on Saturday, May 20th and Monday, May 22.  The weather was really nice this year, cool not muggy!  The rain stayed away Saturday; Monday it stopped in time for us to enjoy the back patio.  The scheduling this year was a little on the weird side with everyone's end of school activities as well as Norman Public Schools re-scheduling orchestra concerts that had been cancelled due to stormy weather the previous week.  We had 16 students perform with a total of 72 on Saturday night; Monday night saw 11 students play with with 48 parents and grandparents in attendance.

We were joined by the character Papageno from Mozart's The Magic Flute.  He didn't find any more birds to add to his collection but did sing for us his first aria from the opera, Der Vogelfanger bin ich ja (I am a birdcatcher).  We had a lot of fun!  I do believe students enjoyed Mozart as our Mystery Composer this year.  His music is delightful to listen to and to perform.  For those students who went to Denton to hear and play the pianoforte, Mozart's music truly came alive.  I hope you enjoy the pictures from this year's recitals.  A warm thank you goes to Mr. Tyler who took the pictures for Saturday night's recital.  Bravo!

My new "toy" -- a single harpsichord in the Italian style. Made from a Zuckerman kit in 1971, it was in an estate sale. Students will be able to work on and perform on this instrument.
